The Difference between Compact Fluorescent Lamp and LED Light

      Compact fluorescent lamp(CFL), also named energy saving lamp, is a lighting fixture which is combined with fluorescent lamp and electrical ballast. Its size is very close to incandescent and the interface of lamp holder is the same with incandescent. Besides, it’s very convenient to produce CFL and the cost is low. Compared with incandescent, CFL is much more energy saving and bright in the same lighting condition. Therefore, it is replaced to incandescent in a short period of time.

      LED, the abbreviation of Light Emitting Diode, is a solid-state semiconductor. It is able to directly convert electric energy into luminous energy. The heart of LED is a semiconductor chip. The pole of chip is attached in a bracket, while the other pole is connected the positive electrode of power. As a result, the whole chip is packaged by epoxy resin.


      Except for theory of lighting, LED light and CFL have remarkable difference in energy saving, capability of heat dissipation, health and lifetime.

Energy saving: The power consumption of LED is very low. Generally speaking, the working voltage of LED is about 2 to 3.6V while the working current is 0.02 to 0.03A. That is to say, the power consumption is no more than 0.1W. The power consumption of CFL is four times of LED light.

Capability of heat dissipation: Compared with CFL LED light is a little inferior because its heat dissipation is not very good. This is the weakness of LED. Therefore, the majority of manufactories are devoted themselves into researching and developing new generation of radiator to overcome the defect.

Health: There is no mercury and xenon harmful elements in LED light, which is benefit for recycle. What’s more, it won’t come into being any electromagnetic interference. On the contrary, CFL not only has mercury and xenon harmful elements but also the electrical ballast would produce electromagnetic interference.

Lifetime: the lifetime of CFL is as long as 10,000 hours, while the lifetime of LED is much longer because of the difference of light method, especially  led high bay   , which is able to reach 100,000 hours.
