One reason about LED Light Damage is that power and drive are failure and the other reason is that LED fixture is out of work. In general, the damage of LED power and drive is from over electric shock of input power and open circuit fault of load. Over electric shock of input power always causes the damage of drive chip in circuit, capacitor and other passive elements, while the open circuit fault of load would result in excess current in drive circuit. What’s worse, the drive circuit would occur in short circuit or even super heating damage. If the LED light is out of work, the mainly reasons are as following.
1. Transient over current event
It means the current flows through the LED is over the maximum rated current, which may be directly caused by large current or indirectly by high voltage, such as transient lightning, switching power supply, fluctuation of electric network, etc. These events are transient and only last in a very short period of time, therefore, it always called peak, current peak or voltage peak.
2. Static or discharge electricity event
It is the most common transient over voltage damage in the manufacture, transportation and application of semiconductor device which is high integration density. According to relatively stipulation, LED lighting system must satisfy the standard of IEC61000-4-2 to avoid the failure of over electric shock in static or discharge electricity. This event which generates the failure of LED chip’s interior maybe the damage of partial function or permanently destroy the LED light, especially led high bay light.
