Basing on the knowledge that mosquitoes are easily attracted to LED Lighting lights and human odor, scientists from University of Malaya have invented the mosquito catching LED Lights using solar panel. This new invention can not only fight the serious outbreak of dengue, but also successfully combined public hygiene and electricity generation using renewable energy.Scientist Chong Wen Tong invented the LED Street Light with mosquito catcher to fight the local dengue disease. It uses electricity generated by solar power and wind power. Chong said, the mosquito trapping device traps mosquito using human odor, and since they are also attracted to ultraviolet ray, the system has also integrated faint ultraviolet ray and suction fan. When mosquitoes are attracted by human odor carbon dioxide, they would be trapped to the bottom of wire net and can’t escape. Besides, in order to avoid shading effect and maximize energy, the solar panel is designed on the top of the system with the circuit on the top of led high bay light, so it can be applied to flood-sensitive regions.According to report on the Guardian, 8 street lights have been placed in the university and Kuala Lumpur. The research team has contracted with one company. The first version of this street light is ready to be commercialized.
