The Safety Problem of LED Street Light in Low Temperature

      With the rapidly development of LED lighting technology, in most domestic cities, there has been no lack of  LED Street Light   in street lighting. Especially after the luminous efficiency of big power LED fixture is over 100lm/W, LED Street Light, as the development tendency of street lighting, has been accepted by people.

The majority of LED Street Light has had great progress in distribution curve and luminous efficiency. Meanwhile, it has reached the requirement of relative standard in energy efficient.

Even though the technology of LED Street Light has developed quickly, most of the manufactories overlook the special technical requirements in low temperature during research. An ordinary but wrong cognition is that LED Street Light is conducive to heat dissipation in low temperature without any breakdown. On the contrary, it has much stricter technological requirement in cold condition.

On the one hand, according to the regulation of government standard, the minimum sectional area of wiring in fixture is no less than 0.5mm2 .Once the sectional area of wiring is less than the standard, it is likely to burn the wiring or insulating layer to cause short circuit. In addition, if the environmental temperature is too low to make the wiring crack, it may be happen electric leakage. Therefore, when picking up a fixture, it should be focused on the structure of support bracket and the material of fixture.

On the other hand, the average lighting time in everyday in most cold area is longer than the average while its power consumption is much higher. Therefore, the feature of short day but long night has brought much more application demand in LED lighting. In cold condition, an easy neglected problem is that snow piles up in the surface of fixture, and then forms ice after hot melt. Once the ice is formed, it’s a big potential safety hazard to cars and pedestrians. Just because of this reason, a safety precaution that should be considered in cold condition is to avoid the condensation of ice.

Even though researchers are trying to solve the above problems, we should pay much attention to the quality of the LED Street Light but not its disadvantage. After all, no one has the ability to avoid the development of LED Light.
